River of Life church was planted by PJ & Ashleigh Smyth in December 1997. Having gathered a core group of friends, they launched a Sunday evening meeting which grew in 6 months to more than 150 members. This lively congregation grew to 300 by 2001 and a morning service was begun. They then submitted themselves to the apostolic leadership of Newfrontiers, a worldwide family of churches!

In 2001 the church was offered the use of church premises in Eastlea, which enabled them to keep a growing congregation in Mount Pleasant and plant the River of Life Eastlea congregation. They also planted their first peri-urban congregation – River of Life Westgate.

PJ & Ashleigh moved to Johannesburg in 2004 to begin a similar church planting work.  Scott Marques was appointed as Lead Elder of River of Life Eastlea and has led the team since then, except for a short period during which he was based in Nampula Mozambique on a church planting and business establishment mission which still thrives today.

In January 2015, River of Life Eastlea merged with Greystone Park Church to create the current multi-site River of Life Church with 5 meetings each Sunday across the 2 sites – ROL Eastlea and ROL Greystone Park.

God continues to bless and grow River of Life Church, and each of the other Newfrontiers churches in Zimbabwe, all of which have planted subsequent churches whilst strengthening and supporting a number of other congregations.

River of Life Church continues as a vibrant local multi-site church community as well as a significant launch pad for the extension of God’s Kingdom in Zimbabwe and beyond.
